How To Find The Perfect Dress Length For YOU

Mathematician Lily Serna presenting her Golden Ratio formula for finding the perfect dress length for you.

To use the Golden Ratio to calculate your perfect dress length, the theory is that you measure the length of your body from your shoulders to your toes (including the heel height you’d normally wear) and divide that by the Golden Ratio (1.618). If you take the resulting number and measure from your shoulders down to that number, you’ll have your perfect dress length.

The famous Fibonacci sequence has captivated mathematicians, artists, designers, and scientists for centuries. Also known as the Golden Ratio, its ubiquity and astounding functionality in nature suggests its importance as a fundamental characteristic of the Universe.

Leonardo Fibonacci came up with the sequence when calculating the ideal expansion pairs of rabbits over the course of one year. Today, its emergent patterns and ratios (phi = 1.61803…) can be seen from the microscale to the macroscale, and right through to biological systems and inanimate objects. While the Golden Ratio doesn’t account for every structure or pattern in the universe, it’s certainly a major player. Here are some examples: io9.com.
